Annual events have a tendency to become stale and in time mundane. An exception is the happily titled Beer, Bourbon, BBQ, Year of the Chicken, a suburban, backyard food and drink extravaganza that sprang from the minds of Sissy and Rick Norman. That spark of an idea would become an epic conflagration — with the help of Dave Mayhew and his wife Jen — into the 2017 celebration of professional chefs, bartenders, beer brewers, and entertainers seen in the pictures below.
Food, wine, martinis and music are sometimes more than you need to host a successful party. Once a year for the last 12 years, Salt Creek Grille in Rumson, NJ has played host to several different charity events. This years beneficiary was the Kortney Rose Foundation, founded by Kristen Gillette who’s daughter died of a rare brain tumor at age 9 in 2006.
Having lost a sister to pediatric leukemia, many years ago, covering this particular fund raiser was both bittersweet and a wake-up call. Still, after all these years, more money needs to be put toward research. Specifically for pediatric causes.
Soap box put aside, Flavor Chronicles/ Chef’s in Motion loves a good party, especially where good food is served, so I bring you highlights of this years event.
Perhaps it’s a full moon, or maybe hell has indeed frozen over, because I am going to review a chain restaurant today. Brick House Tavern and Tap in Neptune, NJ is remarkable and worth a mention.
In respect for holiday thrift, sometimes it is best to stock the refrigerator. With both ham and lamb on sale last week, the dilemma of which to buy, answered itself with a resounding, both!
